ice!™  transforms the resort in winter adventure so guests feel like they stepped into some of their favorite stories. In Orlando, that story is The Polar Express.

Building the set is no easy task.

Twenty thousand square feet, kept at nine degrees Fahrenheit, with hand-carved ice arranged into about a dozen scenes from the film. Guests receive a parka at the door, and the resort recommends bringing hats and gloves. Even in Florida, nine degrees feels like nine degrees.

The ice scenes follow the story: the train arriving at Hero Boy’s house, the hot chocolate sequence with dancing ice waiters, the run through Glacier Gulch, and the arrival at the North Pole.

The Polar Express experience is a strong choice for a multi-generation group. The 2004 film came from a 1985 picture book, which means grandparents may have read the story to the parents, who now read it to the children.

The rest of the resort

ice!™ anchors a full resort holiday program. POMP, SNOW & CIRQUEumstance is the cirque show which follows three friends studying music, magic, and circus arts at a secret university. Acrobats, magicians, and dancers perform on stage, in the air, and through the audience.
#LIT is a multimedia light show staged in the resort’s glass atrium. In addition, there is ice tubing, an Alpine Village for holiday shopping and seasonal food, and a Christmas Carousel inside the Snow Factory.

Another Marriott option: Twelve Nights of Wonder

If you want to be closer to the theme parks, Orlando World Center Marriott is about two miles from Disney World, and has its own holiday program, and provides shuttle service to Disney and Disney Springs. Twelve Nights of Wonder runs from December 20 through 31, 2026.

The Falls Pool area becomes a Winter Wonderland Village each evening from 6 to 9. It includes a train ride, a carousel, and themed chalets running a rotating lineup: story time, hands-on activities for children, a bar, and hand-crafted sweets from the pastry team. 

Santa and Mrs. Claus appears on select dates, carolers fill the lobby and grounds with music, and the resort’s mascot roams in a series of holiday outfits. Fireworks fill the skies on December 26, 28, 30, and 31, with a Mermaid and Glow pool event on the 26th. The season begins when the decorated tree goes up in the lobby the week before Thanksgiving.

The property sits on more than 200 acres, has a full-service spa, an 18-hole championship course at Hawk’s Landing, ten dining outlets, and River Falls Water Park. Seven water slides carry a 48-inch height requirement, so check heights before a small child starts counting down. The 575-foot lazy river and the 400,000-gallon lagoon pool stay heated year-round.

Now Snowing in Celebration

What else would you expect from a town built by Disney? Celebration is a storybook town with a holiday transformation that includes winter snow, magical holiday lights, and an ice-skating rink.

Now Snowing Nightly 2026 begins November 28th. Snow falls every night, in Disney-like  fashion, at 6, 7, 8, and 9, including Christmas Day. Carolers stroll in Dickens costumes. Horse-drawn carriage rides, train rides, a snow village, photos with Santa, and community performances are planned through the season. 

The Crayola Experience, Orlando 

November 21, 2026 – January 3, 2027

Enjoy a Colorful Christmas at the Crayola Experience in Orlando. Kids can make holiday crafts, paint with Edwin the Snowman, enjoy a light show, singing Christmas tree, and go on a scavenger hunt. 

Gatorland 

Gatorland Holiday Ho, Ho, Ho-Down is held during three weekends in December, beginning December 5th. You’ll get holiday music and decorations plus a photo op with Gator Claus on a swamp-ready sleigh. An experience you can only have in Florida! 

Dazzling Nights at Harry P. Leu Gardens

Opens November 27, 2026 at 6pm. 

Leu Gardens‘ 50 acres transform after dark and 2026 is bringing a new experience. You’ll find a winter wonderland with lighted forests and enchanting displays where you can stroll the grounds among candles, music, and the stars. Live entertainment nightly, plus snowfall. 

Parking is limited on site, but complimentary off-site parking runs a shuttle — and the shuttle has its own light show set to music, which is a small charming detail.

Winter Park

Ten miles north of downtown Orlando is a different city entirely: brick streets, oak canopy, independent shops and restaurants, and The Morse Museum holding the world’s most comprehensive collection of Tiffany glass in the world. America’s beloved children’s entertainer,  Fred Rogers, attended Rollins College here. Winter Park was designed to be a city of culture; today travelers enjoy a well-preserved slice of Florida’s history.

The holiday programming centers on Park Avenue. The streets are closed to cars and filled with music, food, and holiday magic. Winter on the Avenue is held in early December, followed the next day by the Ye Olde Hometown Christmas Parade, which has run for more than 70 years. Central Park hosts the Orlando Philharmonic’s Holiday Pops. Knowles Memorial Chapel at Rollins College hosts the Bach Festival Society’s Christmas program.

Winter Garden

Not to be confused with the other Winter town, Winter Garden is West of Orlando, built along the West Orange Trail, and one of the most low-key small towns in the region. We have written about why people love this slice of small-town America; the holidays are when it is at its best.

The season opens with a tree-and-street lighting the first Friday in December. Holiday scheduling continues throughout the season and the Main Street Holiday Stroll runs daily from early December into early January. 

Downtown Orlando

Lake Eola Park is a personal favorite when I’m in Orlando. The urban walk is a shaded lake path with public art and music piped in all year long. For the holidays, you can experience the city’s annual tree lighting in early December, and a Sunday farmers market that runs through the season. The Dr. Phillips Center runs the Orlando Ballet’s Nutcracker in Steinmetz Hall through December, along with a lineup of holiday concerts.

Winter Wellness: The Resort and the Springs

If you’re staying at the Gaylord Palms Resort, their spa invites you to a little self care. During a week of ice, lights, and crowds, 90 minutes to yourself without leaving the property sounds pretty nice.

The Springs

They say nature is healing. Wekiwa Springs State Park sits about an hour north of Kissimmee. You can swim, paddle, and walk trails under oak and palm. The water temperature is around 72 degrees year-round, which feels cold in July and perfect in December.

Some people call Kelly Park at Rock Springs nature’s lazy river.  It has a slow natural current made for floating. Several other springs sit within an hour, and with the summer crowds thinned out, it’s the perfect pause between holiday attractions.

Some springs limit daily capacity and fill early on weekends. Check park conditions and any reservation requirements before going.

Planning Your Christmas in Orlando 2026

Mornings are flexible: The resort, a spring, a garden, or a museum.

Afternoons are perfect to explore walkable towns: Celebration, Winter Park, Winter Garden.

Because there is more than one way to do winter in Orlando, everyone in the group can choose their own adventure. That is how multigenerational travel works best: either spend the day together or split up when your group has different ideas of what to do for the day, meet up at night for dinner, lights, and whatever the little ones are still awake for.

Weather: December weather in Florida is mild but can fluctuate. Afternoons can reach the low 80s or drop into the 50s. Pack layers and the parkas at ICE! are recommended.

Distance: Celebration is close to the resort; Leu Gardens, Winter Park, and Winter Garden are twenty to forty minutes in different directions. You’ll need a car.

Does it actually snow in Orlando in December?

Not naturally, but Celebration, Florida makes its own. The town center four miles from Walt Disney World runs synthetic snowfall nightly at 6, 7, 8, and 9 p.m. from November 28 through December 31, 2026, including Christmas Day. Admission and parking are both free. The event has run for more than 25 years. Real snow in Central Florida is essentially unheard of, though the western Florida Panhandle, hundreds of miles away, saw genuine snowfall in January 2025 and again in January 2026.

How cold is ice! at Gaylord Palms, and what should you wear?

ice! is held at 9°F (-13°C). Every guest receives a complimentary calf-length hooded parka, available in sizes from infant through adult 4XL. The resort strongly recommends bringing hats and gloves, which are also sold on site. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required to ride the ice slides. Most visitors spend 20 to 40 minutes inside, and tickets are single-entry, so you cannot step out to warm up and return.

Do you have to stay at Gaylord Palms to visit ice!?

No. ice! and the resort’s other holiday attractions are open to day visitors as well as overnight guests. All tickets must be purchased in advance online, since the resort has no on-site box office, and ice! uses timed entry. Arrive at least 15 minutes early; entry is not guaranteed for anyone more than five minutes late. Day visitors should budget for parking, which runs $38 for self-parking and $55 for valet, charged per entry with no in-and-out privileges. The resort is cashless. Overnight guests receive a complimentary Chill Pass for front-of-line access, which is not sold separately.

What free Christmas events happen around Orlando?

Several of the best ones cost nothing. Nightly snowfall and parking in Celebration are free.
